These North Shore communities are rich in history. Port Jefferson was a bustling seaport during the Colonial and Victorian eras. Each year, from May through October, tall ships grace the harbor, recalling the glory days of sea commerce. Stony Brook was the home of George Washington's spy ring during the Revolutionary War. There are abundant museums and historical sites to visit including the Mather Museum, the Caroline Church, the Brewster and Thompson Houses, the Emma S. Clark Library and the Mill Pond in Melville Memorial Park.
