A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) is a unique concept to the healthcare continuum because it provides a retirement option to active seniors, over the age of 62, with independent residential living, an activity center, and healthcare. In essence, there are three types of services offered in a CCRC: senior housing, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. These services, which are all coordinated by a team of healthcare professionals, are centrally planned, located and, most importantly, administered on one campus. In order to be accepted into a CCRC you must meet health, insurance and financial requirements.
There are two types of fees associated with a CCRC: Entrance Fees and Monthly Service Fees. The Entrance Fee is the contract that guarantees resident’s access to healthcare for the balance of their lives. Entrance fees can be refundable or non-refundable.
Monthly service fees are based on the size and number of occupants for each unit. These fees provide each resident with certain services and amenities such as meals, transportation, housekeeping, maintenance, utilities, and laundry service. Every CCRC is unique and may include different services in their monthly fees.
